York Pride Parade Welcomes Men’s Issues Charity CAFE After Ban by Toronto Pride

TORONTO, ONTARIO — (June 25, 2015) The Canadian Association for Equality (CAFE), a national men’s issues educational charity recently banned by Toronto Pride, is offering its gratitude to York Pride Fest. CAFE successfully walked in the York Pride Parade this past Saturday, June 20th, sparking tremendous public enthusiasm and zero negative incidents.

In interviews available online York Pride Fest organizers Dave Williams and Jacob Gal offer gratitude for CAFE’s participation and support for the charity’s men’s health mission. Williams also rebukes the unfounded allegations of those who were responsible for having CAFE banned from Toronto Pride.

“We are deeply appreciative to York Pride Fest for their courage and their commitment to the values of Pride and the LGBT community,” said CAFE Executive Director Justin Trottier.

In a separate interview, York Pride Parade Grand Marshall Marilyn Byers thanks Trottier for their personal history working together on behalf of LGBT youth.

“CAFE is disappointed that the leadership of Toronto Pride abandoned their own principles to appease a small group of complainants,” said Trottier. “The LGBT community, which includes many of our members, deserves better.” CAFE members will participate in Sunday’s celebration of inclusion and acceptance by volunteering with Toronto Pride and by walking with a variety of groups.”

Men’s Issues Charity CAFE Walks in Today’s Gay Pride Parade

TORONTO, ONTARIO — (June 20, 2015) The Canadian Association for Equality (CAFE), a national men’s issues educational charity, will walk in today’s York Region Gay Pride Parade as part of York Pride Fest 2015. CAFE is a human rights and gender equality organization. It mandate, especially with respect to same-sex families and gay men’s health, overlaps with that of the LGBT community.

“We are so excited to join today’s celebration of acceptance, inclusion and gay rights,” said CAFE Executive Director Justin Trottier. “This is an ideal time to announce that this summer our Canadian Centre for Men and Families will launch a new fathering program, with special resources and support for gay fathers and their families.”

CAFE has been a leading advocate for inclusive public policies to support all victims of violence. Those often neglected include victims of domestic violence in same-sex relationships and male victims of female perpetrated violence.

CAFE operates the Canadian Centre for Men and Families, an open and inclusive men’s health and social support agency in downtown Toronto just outside the Toronto Gay Village at 152 Carlton St. The Centre provides therapy, peer support and fathering programs to every kind of family. It is an LGBT safe space run by volunteers and supporting people from the gay and lesbian community.
