MEDIA ADVISORY – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Equality Day Will Proceed This Sunday, June 1st at SW Corner of Yonge-Dundas
Canadian Association for Equality Responds to Misinformation with Education
TORONTO, ONTARIO — (May 30, 2014) Canadian Association for Equality (CAFE) will proceed with the first annual Equality Day (E-Day) this Sunday, June 1st from 12PM to 7PM. Volunteers with CAFE will be engaging directly with the public at the South-West corner of Dundas and Yonge, across from Dundas Square.
Equality Day musical activities will be postponed to next Sunday, June 8. Details to be announced.
CAFE received overwhelming support from musicians, sponsors and the general public for Equality Day. After several months of productive collaboration, the original venue Artscape Gibralter-Point cancelled the use of their location after receiving a small number of misinformed complaints.
“CAFE is an educational charity working with support from City Councillors, MPPs, hospital health programs and other social service agencies to host important programs and services for those in need,” said CAFE Outreach Director Denise Fong.
CAFE events have been the target of illegal protests, dangerous acts like the pulling of fire alarms, and now a campaign of misinformation against a music festival celebrating equality.
“Our opponents have expanded much effort to prevent others from hearing what we have to say or allowing others to make up their own mind,” said Fong. “This Sunday we welcome the public to come out and speak with us to learn firsthand about CAFE and equal parenting.”
