A recent facebook update passed along. One of the reasons more men die in incidences of violence is because of the burden of manliness which demands self-sacrifice and suggests the value of a man’s life is a little lower than that of any woman he’s standing beside. When we speak of cultural beliefs that unfairly effect women, we must also start talking about this. And when we insinuate all men are perpetrators of violence against women by manipulating statistics, we might also reflect on the fact that men are more likely to die to protect women than the reverse.
