Equality means equality for everyone.
Around the world major initiatives are underway to ensure young women achieve their full career potential. These efforts are important and praiseworthy. Meanwhile young men are dropping out of school and failing to enrol in post-secondary education at increasing numbers. Currently males are 50% less likely to attend university compared to females. The causes are deeply rooted. Boys report feeling alienated from school, routinely score lower on standardized tests, and display serious behavioural problems. The floundering of young men will have serious consequences on our society. Should we ignore this crisis and blame men for these failings – or are we as a society failing to engage our sons, brothers and male youth?
