Imagine a scenario where a male university student plans an event and explicitly states that women not attend. Then imagine the same male student starts a Twitter hashtag asking that all white women be killed. Further, the male remains unapologetic and hides behind his ethnicity and gender as the reason for his comments.Any idea what would happen to that male student? I doubt very much that the public or the media would be sympathetic to him. I also don’t think it’s farfetched that he would be receiving a call from law enforcement and that the university he attended would publicly denounce the comments. I am quite certain that various university groups and organizations would be calling for that young man’s head and protests would ensue.
However, that is exactly what Bahar Mustafa did.
Bahar is responsible for the #killallwhitemen hashtag and seems to be quite proud of it. Oh, did I mention that Bahar is apparently, the Welfare and Diversity Officer at the University she attends. Whatever that means. Bahar has responded to her critics by stating, “I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men, because racism and sexism describe structures of privilege based on race and gender.”
Bahar’s blatant racist and sexist attitude comes as no shock. In fact, I am quite certain there are many who share her views. This ideology has become acceptable and the norm. Worse, is that Bahar is receiving support where some even make the audacious claim that this is ironic humor and that she is a victim. This is not humor nor is she a victim this is clearly offensive hate speech. Does anybody remember the attention this fellow received: York U student’s refusal to work with women sparks rights debate.
It is unfortunate that Bahar is not being called to task by law enforcement or the university she attends.
